With Scott Wagman’s profile in Sunday edition, first sign of Times’ bias displayed

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Less than a dozen people actually care which one of the St. Pete mayoral candidates would be featured in the Sunday edition of the St. Petersburg Times — the edition with the broader distribution than the rest of the week’s. But I do care because my guy is not in the Sunday edition, instead it was Scott Wagman. Is it a coincidence that the article was written by Adam Smith, who, in the past, has been in the bag for…

If Florida moves its capital to St. Pete…

Larry Williams launches campaign website

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

…and it’s not half-bad. Well, most political websites are half-bad, but Larry’s website at larrywilliamsformayor.com is better than, say, Kathleen Ford’s. Anyone else starting to get the feeling that ol’ Larry may be the proverbial dark horse in this race? At first, I thought he would just hurt Jamie Bennett, but the more I think about it, I think he damages Bill Foster and Deveron Gibbons. His supporters are out-of-the-way Republicans that would more likely support Bill or Dev before…

What an active PCDEC could have done

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

As I passed by the Saturday Morning Market and saw Scott Wagman’s hard-working volunteers continue to collect the requisite number of signatures from Saint Petersburg voters, a task which Jamie Bennett’s campaign only recently completed, I couldn’t help but wonder what a difference it would make if there was a more active, more politically astute Pinellas County Democratic Executive Committee. Let’s say I was chair of the PCDEC, a terrifying thought to some, I am sure. But if I were…

Now that he has their campaign contributions, Deveron Gibbons quits Housing Authority, five other civic boards

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Corporate executive Deveron Gibbons has quit six local boards to focus on his campaign for mayor. Of course he resigned! Now that Deveron is done wringing $500 checks out of his fellow board members, what use are they? Deveron has planned on running for well over a year and knew full well the time commitment it takes to run for public office, and now he decides to resign. This mass resignation stink of fear. Fear that there really is a…

Where Deveron Gibbons got his money

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

I went to FSU, so I’m not that great at math, so forgive me if I messed up the numbers a bit. It’s clear to me that Deveron Gibbons raised more than 75K from out-of-town donors. I’d be a hypocrite to say I wouldn’t like to see Jamie Bennett take in as much money as possible, but that much dough from outside of St. Pete should raise alarm bells.

Deveron Gibbons raised 21K from lobbyists

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Deveron Gibbons’ impressive fundraising effort — 115K for the 1st Quarter — is quite a haul. But if you take a look at the actual report, there is a lot of information that may end up hurting Gibbons. The first issue that strikes me is not how much money he raised from out-of-town donors, but the fact that he raised more than $21,600 from lobbyists (and their spouses), political action committees, and governmental affairs firm and law offices which lobby.…
