Monday’s Mayoral Wrap-up

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

The first fundraising deadline came and went last week and all of the major campaigns (I’ll get to that distinction in a moment) are still holding their collective breaths, waiting to see each others’ numbers. Of course, the local media is ready to write their horserace stories about which pony got out of the gate fastest. And yet, the same media that bemoans the presence of so much money in politics can’t help but write article after article about nothing…

Deveron Gibbons knocked off Housing Authority

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Mayoral candidate Deveron Gibbons had the wind knocked out of him yesterday when his supposed patron Governor Charlie Crist declined to re-appoint Gibbons to the Pinellas County Housing Authority, the bread and butter of Deveron’s political clout. This is one of those under-the-radar stories important to mostly insiders, but I can’t stress enough the magnitude of this slight. If Deveron’s campaign was already wobbly after the revelation of his checkered driving record, then he has to be on the floor…

To which, Scott Wagman, who was already noticeably uncomfortable, offerred that Gibbons was in “someone else’s pocket.” This is yet another…

Deveron Gibbons and Scott Wagman incoherent on what to do with The Pier

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Adam Smith, on a break from covering the legislative session, wrote the Bay Buzz post below. It is petrifying how incoherent both Deveron Gibbons and Scott Wagman are on one of the most important issues facing the city: what to do with The Pier. Unfortunately, these two candidates, Gibbons through his connections in statewide politics and Wagman with his own checkbook, are sure to be the leading fundraisers for the first quarter. Still, take a moment to read their statements…

Monday Mayoral Wrap-up

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

That loud swooshing sound you hear is all of the oxygen being taken in this week before late-entry candidates Bill Foster and Kathleen Ford elbow their way into the mayoral conversation. In my analysis, there’s only room for one of these two candidates in the general election, although that doesn’t mean they should fight amongst themselves. In fact, I think that’s the last thing you’ll see out of these two. In their sights has to be quasi-establishment candidates Jamie Bennett and…

Kendrick Meek comes to Atwater’s

in Statewide/The Bay and the 'Burg by

U.S Senate hopeful Kendrick Meek spent time in St. Petersburg this afternoon, meeting with community leaders, elected officials and prominent local Democrats, including Frank Peterman and St. Pete city council members Karl Nurse and Jamie Bennett. Republican Deveron Gibbons was also in the crowd. Congressman Meek was accompanied by Gershom Faulkner and Anna Cruz. Vistorious from the battle over the stimulus package, Meek delivered a reassuring message about what will be done next in Washington.
