Scott Wagman, the Half-Million Dollar Man loaned, err, raised $271K for the primary

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Final fundraising numbers for the primary in the St. Petersburg Mayoral Race: Jamie Bennett reported $1,000 in contributions. For the primary he raised $47,683. About $5OK less than what he would have raised had he still had me around. Scott Wagman raises $3,735.01 and loans his campaign $30,000 (now $170,000 all together). For the primary he raised a total of $271,635. You may remember Larry and Mitch bragging about their guy raisin’ $500K for this race. Fellas, hate to tell…

What we did not hear from the Saint Petersburg Mayoral Candidates

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

As the race to be St. Petersburg’s next Mayor winds down, I have been surprised not only by some of the things the candidates did say, but also by some of the things they did not say. We did not hear Kathleen Ford personally attack Rick Baker. Instead, Ford used softer, generic terms, like “the current administration” to criticize the status quo. We did not hear Bill Foster talk about his conservative values. For all the criticism he endures for…

Bill Foster targeted in new mailer

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

From the Bay Buzz, which doled out hat tip to me for the image I gave the Times: Bill Foster is the target of a mailer criticizing his tax record while on the City Council. The mailer, which is apparently paid for by a group that calls itself the Committee for Responsible Representation, says Foster voted to increase city property taxes 64 percent from 1999 to 2006. The mailer also says Foster accepted a 40 percent pay raise in 2005…

Bill Foster pulls ahead of field in latest poll

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

The mayor’s election is a four-way horse race, with more than a third of voters still undecided, a new St. Petersburg Times/Bay News 9 poll shows. Less than a week before the Sept. 1 primary, Bill Foster, Kathleen Ford, Deveron Gibbons and Scott Wagman have separated themselves from the 10-candidate pack. Foster led with 17 percent, followed by Ford and Gibbons with 13 percent each, and Wagman in fourth at 10 percent, according to a poll of 600 St. Petersburg…

Deveron Gibbons goes hard to the right with latest mail-piece

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Surprised to be so far behind in the polls, with a rumor circulating that his own recent poll provided worse results than the one conducted by the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership, Deveron Gibbons is tacking hard to the right in an apparent effort to take votes from fellow Republican Bill Foster, who is polling ahead of Gibbons. Gibbons’ campaign mailed this piece, which emphasizes Gibbons’ conservative philosophy and pledge to “not support any tax increase if elected.” This postcard seems…

Former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young to work on GOTV for Gibbons…and other thoughts on Deveron’s campaign

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Rumors are flying around so quickly, there isn’t enough time for separate posts on all the news coming out of the St. Petersburg Mayoral Race. A few tidbits from the Deveron Gibbons’ campaign: Word is that former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young will be rallying black voters for Gibbons during several GOTV stops at African American churches next Sunday. Gibbons’ media consultant Adam Goodman said on the TV program Florida This Week that he “just saw a new poll that show…

10 things I think I think about the televised ‘Conversation with the Candidates’

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

1. The St. Petersburg Times should be embarrassed by the turnout at last night’s forum. There wasn’t more than 150 people in the audience, none of whom haven’t already made up their mind. The entire balcony was empty! That’s how bad the Times’ “picayune” coverage has been…that no one, and I mean no one, cares enough to show up for the only televised debate of the campaign. Where was the Police Chief or members of his command? Where were the…
