Look for Sean Maguire to lead the Seminoles at quarterback again

in Sports/Top Headlines by

He’s the safe choice, the sane choice. He’s been here before. He’s led FSU downfield before. Yep, it’s Sean Maguire’s team, all right. Unless it isn’t. As FSU began its fall practice Tuesday afternoon, the question was probably where it shouldn’t be. After all, Maguire was the best quarterback for the Seminoles last season, wasn’t he? Surely, Jimbo Fisher wouldn’t pick another quarterback over Maguire, the way he did Everett Golson, would he? And still… There are a lot of…

Miami plays Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic and Appalachian State. Even FSU has Syracuse. But there are keeper games, too. Games you…

Over the years, FSU has had great defensive players on the field, too

in Sports/Top Headlines by

FSU isn’t just about offense. Yes, the school has brought us Charlie Ward and Warrick Dunn and Ron Sellers, Peter Warrick and Chris Weinke and Dalvin Cook. But when it comes time to stopping the other team, the Seminoles have been excellent, too. You could build an argument that a Mount Rushmore of defensive players would be even more impressive than an offensive one. Here in the Defenders week at the St. PetersBlog, we pose the question. Who are the…

The receivers: Peter Warrick leads impressive list for Florida State Seminoles

in Sports/Top Headlines by

The FSU Seminoles have always been feared in the deep. Even more than quarterbacks, even more than running backs, FSU has had a collection of wide receivers to lead the way to their successes. It is the sudden strike, the weaving receiver running through the secondary, that has led FSU in most seasons. But here in Receiver Week, who are the Top 10? A glance: 10. Javon Walker (2000-2001): Other receivers have gained more yardage, but Walker caught 65 balls…

The running backs: Can FSU star Dalvin Cook win the Heisman Trophy?

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Soon, the chase begins. Soon, Davin Cook sets his eyes on the Heisman Trophy. What’s that? Oh, you don’t think Cook has a shot? After all, of the six players who finished ahead of Cook in last year’s Heisman race, four of them are back. In the odds of winning the Heisman, Cook is fifth. Doesn’t that put him in the chase position from the start? Well, not really. If the Heisman voting recently shows us anything, it’s that it…
