Six games that could potentially knock Florida State out of the top 10

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Florida State’s Seminoles aren’t as high in the poll rankings as usual, and certainly, they aren’t as high as their fans would like. To some, however, Jimbo Fisher’s FSU  team is overrated. It will be the task of the Seminoles to prove that isn’t true. ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum, for instance, is among those who believes FSU is resting on its reputation. He recently criticized FSU, saying the team has “no business” in the top 10, largely because he’s not…

Florida State ranked eighth in preseason football poll

in Sports/Top Headlines by

‘For FSU, the question is whether eight is enough. The Seminoles of coach Jimbo Fisher, who have a national championship and a final four playoff berth in the last two seasons, are expected to have another Top 10 season. For the FSU fan, however, will that be enough? FSU was ranked eighth on Thursday in the preseason Amway Coaches’ Poll for the upcoming season. Given the Seminoles’ heavy losses, given the suspension of running back Dalvin Cook, that isn’t bad.…

FSU’s Jimbo Fisher says Dalvin Cook’s case must be resolved

in Sports/Top Headlines by

The chances of Texas State pulling an upset against FSU may well rest in the parking lot outside of a Tallahassee bar. FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said Tuesday that the indefinite suspension of star running back Dalvin Cook would continue until there is a resolution to the misdemeanor battery charge he faces. Until then, Fisher said, Cook will not be allowed to practice or to work out with the team. “It’s just like an injury,” Fisher told the Orlando Sentinel…

But the iconic Grizzle-Malgrat is going to the Atlanta Falcons. An equipment manager during the week who washes FSU uniforms, Grizzle-Malgrat told CBS Sports that his assignment was Winston. “I”ve been put in charge of taking care of Jameis,” Grizzle-Malgrat said. “I make sure Jameis has…

Court might determine the future of FSU running back Dalvin Cook

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Will the absence of a video save Dalvin Cook? Or has Cook carried the ball for the final time at FSU? It may be up to the court to decide. Not long ago, it seemed that Cook, the sophomore running back from Miami, was running toward stardom. He was the MVP of the ACC title game, and he gained more than 1,000 yards in his freshman season. Now that quarterback Jameis Winston has gone on the NFL, it seemed that…

Media picks FSU to finish second, for a change, in ACC race

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Could someone not named Florida State win the ACC for a change? Maybe. Media members at the ACC media days picked Clemson – Clemson! – to win the league title this season, which would represent quite a changing of the guard. FSU has won three straight titles, and the Seminoles have 24-game conference winning streak. Most of the off-season polls, understandably, have looked to FSU to be the team to beat once again. But the media members gave Clemson 84…

Transfer Everett Golson is 3rd on FSU depth chart; Dalvin Cook still first

in Sports/Top Headlines by

If transfer Everett Golson is going to be the next FSU quarterback, he has some work to do. Golson, who is coming in from Notre Dame, was listed as third on the Seminoles’ depth chart when the team released it Sunday afternoon, behind returning Sean MaGuire and redshirt freshman J.J. Cosentino. For Golson, that means there is a lot of making up to do before the team opens its season against Texas State. MaGuire had one start last year. Golson…
