Images from Election 2009

Those running for elected office in St. Petersburg were subjected to attending a gauntlet of sparsely-attended candidate forums, such as this one in Midtown. Not counting the candidates and their entourages, fewer than two dozen residents bothered to attend the meeting — about the same number of people who attended most of these events. In the run-up to the 2009 Municipal Elections, the City Council’s decision to vacate the sidewalk outside of BayWalk became a national story after a fight broke…

Charlie Justice’s congressional campaign criticized over paltry fundraising, excessive spending

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

No one ever said it was going to be easy for Charlie Justice (D-St. Petersburg) to knock off incumbent Bill Young (R-Indian Shores). After all, Young is in his 20th term in the US House, an all-powerful member of the Appropriations Committee and is the ranking minority member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense. Because Young brings home to Pinellas County so much in federal money, it’s difficult to envision him leaving Congress on anything but his own accord.…

Bill Foster rollin’ in the dough

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

The money is starting to roll in for Bill Foster. His latest fundraising report showed Foster hauled in more than $36K over the last period. And that’s not counting the 12K he raised last Wednesday at the fundraiser AK Desai, Joe Triolo and Jim Holton hosted for Foster at the Venue or the money former Deveron Gibbons supporter Tim Higham raised for Foster last Friday at a fundraiser littered with other Gibbons supporters (I walked by and saw Nick Hansen…

Jamie Bennett files amended report — again

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

The City Clerk’s office just called me with news that Jamie Bennett is filing an amended campaign treasurer’s report for the last fundraising period. This will be the third time of the campaign Bennett has been forced to submit an amended report. This latest instance comes after my insistence that Bennett did not make checks paid to me payable to PS Creative, my former company. Of course, Bennett said that I was lying right up until I threatened to file…
