Two best websites may be from City Council candidates, not mayoral contenders

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Of the 22 individuals crazy enough to run for elected office in St. Petersburg, the two with perhaps the best websites are candidates for City Council, rather than the better-funded candidates for Mayor. Well, mayoral candidate Scott Wagman has the best website, with plenty of YouTube videos. But at an expense of $20K, the cost of Wagman’s website far exceeds its value. Jamie Bennett had a good-looking, workhorse of a website, loaded with several active blogs. But since I left…

Exclusive: Deveron Gibbons, Kathleen Ford lead race to be next Mayor, according to SP voter survey

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

The Times isn’t the only source with for exclusive polling information. I’ve obtained a copy of a comprehensive voter survey of 400 registered St. Petersburg voters. I’ll be sharing the results of this survey throughout the week. For Deveron Gibbons, the glass is either half-empty or half-full. For Kathleen Ford, the glass is surprising filled-up. For the mythical candidate “Undecided,” the cup runneth over. In a survey of voters in St. Petersburg City Council Districts 5,6, and 7, Gibbons was…

Read the atrocious newsletter from the Jamie Bennett Campaign and noticed that, not only was Gulfport Mayor Mike Yakes supporting Bennett, but it looks like Gulfport City Commission members Michelle King and Sam Henderson are raising money for Bennett’s campaign: Oh, and if you don’t think there’s a difference between what I do and what others try to do, look no further than the difference between these two newsletters; one is sharp, professional, well-written: The second newsletter is, well, it’s…

After Ford, Bill Foster and Deveron Gibbons each received 8 percent, followed by Larry Williams and Scott Wagman with 4 percent each. City Council member Jamie Bennett received 3 percent of the vote. Can Jamie Bennett make a comeback?

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

There are two interpretations of this photo of Jamie Bennett posted on his revamped, albeit underwhelming Facebook profile (please Jamie, update your Twitter account — it’s been 44 days.) On one hand, the picture shows the Jamie we all know and love; BBQ Jamie, happily grilling sausages at a too low-key event for his remaining volunteers. On the other hand, there is a man with more gray hair than he had six months ago, a loss of hair color for…

The Worst Election Ever

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Who would believe the fate of St. Petersburg could be changed by a car accident that occurred well beyond its city limits? On a brisk October evening, the Lord decided to call home Patrick Brett, the 20-year-old son of Terry and Kim. The high school student body president, homecoming king, and president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, died well before his time in a car accident on his way home from a college football game. Because it was near…
