Jim Greer asks for suit against RPOF to be put on hold

in Statewide by

Former Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer on Friday asked a Sanford judge to put a temporary hold on his lawsuit against the party and its new chairman while he battles criminal charges. Greer was arrested at his Oviedo home last week on theft, fraud and corruption charges. A statewide grand jury handed up an indictment, accusing him stealing $125,000 from the Republican Party of Florida. Party leaders first denied the existence of the severance contract and later admitted there was one —and…

Marco Rubio: No more Cult of Charlie Crist

in Statewide by

As the Crist-Greer story develops, Marco Rubio isn’t sweating. He tells National Review Online that the Florida GOP’s woes are serious, but a story from the past that damages Crist more than the GOP brand. “Our party turned the corner a couple months ago when John Thrasher was elected chairman,” Rubio says. “We’re now focused on what the GOP is supposed to be about: Promoting ideas that will help us maintain majorities in state government and attain them at the federal level. That’s what…

John Thrasher: It’s not cleanup duty, just a photo-op for Charlie Crist

in Statewide by

From David Hunt: State Sen. John Thrasher, who is chairing the Republican Party of Florida, has not been bashful when he gets a chance to stick it to Gov. Charlie Crist. He told a crowd of Republicans in Ponte Vedra Saturday that he’s glad Crist (who left the GOP in April) has found it lonely to run as an independent for U.S. Senate. During his tenure as party chairman, even up until they day he resigned in February, Crist supported Greer. “It’s surprising,” Crist said Wednesday at…

John Thrasher blames Charlie Crist for Jim Greer

in Statewide by

Republican Party of Florida Chairman John Thrasher said the arrest of his predecessor on charges of grand theft and money laundering were “regrettable” but that the man who hand-picked Jim Greer for the job shared some responsibility for the scandal. That would be Gov. Charlie Crist, the former Republican officeholder-turned-independent U.S. Senate candidate. “I don’t think you can walk away from the fact that this guy was at one time your best buddy in politics, that you relied on day-in and day-out, and…

What will happen to Charlie Crist’s 10 appointments to RPOF Executive Committee

in Statewide by

Governor Charlie Crist’s 10 appointments to the Republican Party of Florida’s Executive Committee are in limbo, now that Crist has decided to run as an independent. Party Chairman John Thrasher says the matter is under discussion. “I’ve got the staff looking at that,” Thrasher said. “I think, technically they’re still OK. He is the governor; he made the appointments when he was Republican. You know, I don’t what the rule on that is. We’ll look at it. I don’t want to…
