Patrick Murphy says Marco Rubio goes low in bringing up photo with former girlfriend

in 2017 by

One of the most unexpected moments of Monday night’s Senate debate between Marco Rubio and Patrick Murphy was when Rubio said Murphy posted a photo on Facebook four years ago showing him groping a woman. “That’s inappropriate behavior!” he charged at Murphy, who appeared startled by the reference. On Tuesday, Murphy dismissed the allegation. “When Donald Trump goes low, Marco Rubio goes lower,” the Democratic nominee said, paraphrasing Michelle Obama’s line regarding Trump. “This is a picture from my college girlfriend I dated for four years. We were at dinner.” He…

in 2017 by

Florida’s U.S. Senate race is coming down to the wire. A new Quinnipiac University poll showed a dead heat between Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Patrick Murphy. According to the poll, 49 percent of Floridians said they were backing Rubio, compared to 47 percent who picked Murphy. The poll of 660 likely Florida voters was conducted from Oct. 10 through Oct. 16. It has a margin of error of 3.8 percent. The newest poll shows Murphy is gaining ground on…

Joe Henderson: ‘Checkmate’ in the Marco Rubio-Patrick Murphy debate

in 2017/Top Headlines by

In the game of chess, it is called “checkmate.” It is that moment when a player realizes their opponent just cut off their last route of escape. I think that’s the gambit Marco Rubio sprung on Democrat Patrick Murphy during their U.S. Senate debate Monday night. One of the best lines of attack for Murphy was that Rubio hadn’t committed to serving the full six-year term that goes with being a senator. The implication was this young man in a…

Mitch Perry Report for 10.18.16 — Amy Schumer not the 1st liberal comic to alienate her fans in Tampa

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Amy Schumer isn’t the only major comic whose liberal schtick ended up alienating some Tampa residents who coughed up big money for a night’s entertainment. In 2003 Bill Maher gave an eviscerating takedown of George W. Bush at the Straz Theatre (still known then simply as the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center). It was just months after the “successful” invasion of Iraq. It was well before things went truly south for the U.S. and western forces there, and in our popular…

Marco Rubio and Patrick Murphy trade blows in first debate

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Neither Sen. Marco Rubio nor Rep. Patrick Murphy debated primary opponents. So it stood to reason their debate Monday night would be one to watch. And indeed it was. For an hour in Orlando at the University of Central Florida, the Republican incumbent and his Democratic challenger traded shots on issue after issue, finally bringing to life the cyberspace sniping between their operatives and partisans. Murphy won the coin flip, and got the opening statement. **** After reviewing his accomplishments thus far in Congress,…

Rally outside U.S. Senate debate at UCF gleefully energized against both candidates

in 2017/Top Headlines by

To passers-by at the political rally on the green courtyard outside the Fairwinds Alumni building at UCF, where a U.S. Senate debate was to happen later that night, both U.S. Senate candidates must have sounded bad. Patrick Murphy‘s detractors called him privileged and said his record was among the least effective in Congress, so how could he be trusted with a higher seat? Marco Rubio‘s detractors said it was time for him to go due to his poor attendance record and opposition…

Richard El-Rassy: Keep Patrick Murphy on the bench

in 2017/Top Headlines by

On June 23, Democratic Rep. Patrick Murphy of Florida’s 18th Congressional District walked onto the pitcher’s mound at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. for the Congressional Baseball Game with hopes of beating the Republicans for the eighth year in a row. In fact, all he needed to do was hold the Democrats’ 7-6 lead for one more inning, and they would have yet another W in their column. Unfortunately for Murphy, many millennials in the crowd (myself included) were sick and tired…
