Kendrick Meek: Charlie Crist thinking about himself

in Statewide by

From ABC Action News: Kendrick Meek arrived in Clearwater Saturday night, the seemingly forgotten, likely Democratic candidate for United States Senate in Florida, buried beneath the headline-capturing battle between Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio on the Republican side. In fact, the very first question Meek faced from a gaggle of Tampa reporters was about the possibility of Crist running as an independent, if he lost to Rubio in the Republican primary. “I think the governor is thinking about his political…

Pensacola News-Journal editorial: Charlie Crist should run as Independent

in Statewide by

The Pensacola News Journal, I believe, is the first major newspaper to editorialize that Charlie Crist should drop out of the Republican Primary and run as an Independent or with No Party Affiliation: It’s time for Gov. Charlie Crist to abandon his Republican primary run for the U.S. Senate and instead face off against challengers Marco Rubio and Kendrick Meek as an Independent in the November election. Such a race would allow Florida voters to make a clear liberal-moderate-conservative choice……

Washington Post: For Charlie Crist, dark days in the Sunshine State primary

in Statewide/The Bay and the 'Burg by

It was precisely the sort of event that Gov. Charlie Crist loves: a nonpartisan, non-ideological chance to boost Florida, its people and its weather. Yet it was also a moment rooted in partisanship: a news conference on Tuesday capping an effort by leaders from around Tampa Bay to persuade Republicans to bring their national convention here in 2012. With Crist in a tough Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat, this would have been the perfect occasion for tossing some…

Charlie Crist MUST run as an Independent

in Peter/Statewide by

Charlie Crist has denied that he has any intention of leaving the GOP, though today’s poll from Public Policy Polling demonstrate he just cannot win the Republican primary. It’s time for Charlie Crist to suck it up and face facts. Or he will become a political laughingstock destined for a lifetime of boat-drinks at the St. Pete Yacht Club (not a bad life, but not what Crist wants). After polls two weeks ago showed him down by 16 and 18…

Rasmussen Poll: Marco Rubio leads Charlie Crist by 18%

in Statewide by

Former state House Speaker Marco Rubio continues to lengthen his lead over Governor Charlie Crist in the contest for Florida’s Republican Senate nomination. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely Republican Primary voters finds Rubio leading Crist by 18 points, 54% to 36%. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and seven percent are undecided. Those figures reflect a five point increase in support for Rubio compared to a month ago. Support for Crist has changed little over the…

FreedomWorks and Dick Armey to endorse Marco Rubio at event celebrating ‘The Hug’

in Statewide by

Press release: On February 10th 2009, Florida Governor Charlie Crist joined President Obama at a now infamous town hall meeting in Fort Myers to support the $800 billion stimulus bill. This colossal waste of money increased the national debt, did not help the economy and failed to prevent tremendous job losses in Florida and across the country. But Gov. Crist stood hand-in-hand with President Obama nonetheless and applauded his big government scheme that would cost taxpayers dearly. That is why…
