‘Technology in Elections Act’ passes unanimously

in Peter/Statewide by

Great news for those of us who have been following Florida’s Technology in Elections Act – the bill, otherwise known as the Peter Schorsch bill because it was my complaint against St. Petersburg mayoral candidate Scott Wagman that prompted this legislative action, passed the Florida House of Representatives today by a unanimous vote of 114-0.  Here is the full release from State Representative Eric Eisnaugle (R-FL), the bill’s sponsor: Today, Representative Eric Eisnaugle’s (R-Orlando) Technology in Elections Act (HB 869) passed…

Mitch Kates loses his shit

in Peter by

Is anyone else beginning to think that local Democratic political consultant Mitch Kates is, to put it succinctly, losing his shit? The Bay Buzz writes today about a letter Kates wrote to Eric Forcade, a very minor Tea Party candidate who dropped out of the race to challenge incumbent Congressman Bill Young: “…calling him ‘a coward, hypocrite and referring to Forcade, a Pinellas sheriff’s officer, as “you and your crazy 9-12ers” and “nut-ball demigod hero Glenn Beck.” Okay, so maybe Kates is…

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

During the 2009 St. Petersburg Mayoral Race, candidates Kathleen Ford and Scott Wagman benefitted greatly from the support of local Democrats. “As expected, Pinellas Democrats have thrown their support behind Kathleen Ford, the Democratic contender in the nonpartisan mayoral race.” – Bay Buzz, Pinellas Democrats throw support behind Kathleen Ford for St. Pete mayor “Local and state Democrats are aggressively targeting St. Petersburg’s officially nonpartisan mayor’s race to help put a Democrat, Kathleen Ford, in the mayor’s seat, while Republicans…

Battleground Tampa Bay

in Peter/Statewide by

During last year’s St. Petersburg Mayoral Campaign, when I published blog post after blog post about that election, I took note of a subtle trend in how visitors were arriving on my site. As much as I would have liked otherwise, many of my readers were not coming directly to Saint Petersblog, rather they were coming to the site after searching for a particular term in Google, Yahoo, etc. Yes, there was a base of regular readers who arrived on…

Democratic consultants seek $72K to run campaign for Pinellas County Commission

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

A proposal to an undisclosed propsective candidate by Democratic political consultants Ian O’Hara and Matthew Snyder of Realization Management seeks an astounding $72,000 in fees to manage a campaign for the Pinellas County Commission. O’Hara and Snyder’s proposal is outlined in a series of e-mails and documents provided to me by an anonymous source. I’m not sure who O’Hara and Snyder drafted the proposal for. What is clear is that O’Hara and Snyder think awfully high of their talents. Their…

Elections complaint against St. Petersburg mayoral candidate Scott Wagman dismissed

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

The Florida Election Commission has decided that Internet ads used by mayoral candidate Scott Wagman this summer didn’t violate election rules, though the group is recommending that lawmakers clarify how old campaign laws should apply to new media. A complaint had been filed with the commission claiming Wagman’s ads violated elections law because they didn’t include disclaimers declaring them “political advertisement paid for and approved by Scott Wagman for mayor.” The candidate said there wasn’t room on those small, hypertext…
