St. Pete preservation announces May Movies in the Park series

Conservancy group St. Pete Preservation has unveiled its latest lineup in the annual Movies at the Park series. Movies in the Park is a free showing of film classics and live music set for each Thursday night in May at St. Petersburg’s North Straub Park on Beach Drive between Fourth and Fifth Avenues NE. St. Pete to auction off 88-year-old Pier bait house

St. Pete hopes to auction off the 1926 Pier bait house to the highest bidder. In an announcement posted Friday, the city says a “buyer will be responsible for removal and all regulatory approvals and permits for moving the building, and relocation to a new site with a licensed mover.” According to the city’s announcement, it will accept bids via email until midnight Nov. 11. Emails show overwhelming opposition for loosened historic designation changes

Things aren’t looking good for preservationists hoping to make it easier for neighborhoods to obtain historic designation. Based on an analysis of nearly 450 emails sent to city staff, Mayor Rick Kriseman and City Council over the past four months, opposition to an effort to change the way historic designation is obtained far exceeds support.
