in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Tampa’s Thee Dollhouse may be in hot water and it’s not because of the strip club’s poor spelling. Three models not affiliated with the club are suing Thee Dollhouse for a combined $280,000 over unauthorized use of their photos. Ashley Vickers, who has worked as a spokeswoman for NASCAR and an emcee for the Memphis Grizzlies professional basketball team, alleges a photo of her was posted to the strip club’s Facebook page alongside text that read, “who’s coming to play…

Bob Buckhorn, Rick Kriseman to deliver lively State of the Bay on Friday

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Neighboring Mayors Bob Buckhorn and Rick Kriseman will deliver a State of the Bay address at the Suncoast Tiger Bay Club luncheon at the St. Pete Yacht Club in downtown on Friday. The two are likely to tout their respective wins in both Tampa and St. Pete. For Kriseman that means a demolished Pier, a thriving downtown, several key steps in stamping out poverty in South St. Pete and, most likely by then, a new deal with the Tampa Bay Rays. For Buckhorn, there’s the mostly…

Bob Buckhorn blocked me on Twitter

Bob Buckhorn blocked me on Twitter. Or one of his staffers with access to his social media did. Or he told them to. In any case, I can’t view any of Buckhorn’s tweets. A while back I wrote some fairly antagonistic stories about Tampa’s commander-in-chief. In early June when a 14-year old was gunned down in broad daylight, Buckhorn was quoted in the Tampa Bay Times basically blaming the victim for his own death. I called him out on it.…

Next Wednesday, the Hillsborough County Commission is poised to approve an agreement with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that will include spending $29 million in taxpayers money for improvements to Raymond James Stadium, the home of the Bucs that was built with public money back in 1996. That money would come from 4 cents of the 5-cent county tourist tax, which must be spent on sports facilities or promoting tourism. But expect the board to encounter some turbulence before that vote, as…

St. Pete City Council to weigh ferry pilot project in December

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

St. Pete City Council will talk about whether or not to get behind a water ferry proposal that would cart residents and visitors between downtown St. Pete and Tampa. During a committee meeting Thursday the board scheduled a staff report about the proposed ferry project at the December 3 meeting. At issue is whether or not City Council is prepared to voice its support for allocating city funds to the project. Mayor Rick Kriseman has already proposed $350,000 toward a…
