The U.S. Senator from Vermont, who badly trails Hillary Clinton in Florida polls, will speak at a Miami rally today and at Kissimmee and Tampa rallies on Thursday. Pie in the sky transit proposal: Gondolas in St. Pete

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

St. Pete wants to move its people around St. Pete over the roads. Earlier this month the city submitted an application for a $40 million federal grant with its big-ticket item focused on Aerial Cable Propelled Transit. Or Gondolas. It’s an almost Jetsons-like vision invoking images of people floating along in bubbles. Though, in St. Pete’s vision they’re not floating, they’re being pulled along cables connected to intermittent posts. Plus it’s technology that already exists. Other countries use Gondolas as…

The 71-year old nurse at Achieve Home Care and her husband, Allen Fernandez, took out a reverse mortgage on their home in 2007. He died in 2011. Two years after the fact the mortgage company, Nationstar, foreclosed on the house. According to…

Could Rays become Team Snowbird with 2 homes?

in Sports/Top Headlines by

And now, for the worst idea ever. How about the Tampa Bay-Montreal Rays, a baseball team that would supposedly speak French, English and Southern? Such is the idea of Francois Cardinal, who writes for La Presse in Montreal. The article was picked up the Tampa Bay Times. It suggests that the Rays play half of their games in Tampa Bay and the other half in Montreal. Even for Kevin Kiermaier, that’s a lot of ground to cover. Cardinal writes that…

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

A Muslim man is suing Select Motors in Tampa for allegedly duping him into purchasing a luxury vehicle for more than he initially bargained for. According to the lawsuit filed in Hillsborough County Court February 3, the cost discrepancy between the acquisition price Deeb Aliwaiwi brokered and what was assessed in loan documents amounted to more than $50,000. But here’s the kicker, Aliwaiwi signed a contract agreeing to the higher purchase price. The 31-year-old entered Select motors with two friends…

Toast to the Bay/Dump into the Bay: Two Bay area judges; Jim Frishe

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Toast: Two judges, some murderers (unfortunately) and death penalty critics The death penalty doesn’t exist in Florida. At least not for now. And that’s a thing of beauty for the folks who don’t care for the policy much. Especially considering Florida is the second most murderous state in the nation in terms of capital punishment. Two judges, Hillsborough Circuit Judge Samantha Ward and Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Michael Andrews, found consensus that right now, Florida doesn’t have a death penalty. Last…
