The worst trend of the St. Pete mayoral campaign: Candidates as guest bartenders

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Of the numerous choices which could qualify as the worst trend developing out the St. Petersburg Mayoral Campaign, the worst has to be the idea of candidates doing their impression of Sam Malone. I count at least three candidates who have either been a “guest bartender” for a fundraiser or have led their supporters on a “pub crawl.” Another candidate hosted a major volunteer event at Push Ultra Lounge. And don’t forget one mayoral candidate owns his own restaurant, so…

Deveron Gibbons goes hard to the right with latest mail-piece

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Surprised to be so far behind in the polls, with a rumor circulating that his own recent poll provided worse results than the one conducted by the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership, Deveron Gibbons is tacking hard to the right in an apparent effort to take votes from fellow Republican Bill Foster, who is polling ahead of Gibbons. Gibbons’ campaign mailed this piece, which emphasizes Gibbons’ conservative philosophy and pledge to “not support any tax increase if elected.” This postcard seems…

A few tidbits from the Deveron Gibbons’ campaign: Word is that former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young will be rallying black voters for Gibbons during several GOTV stops at African American churches next Sunday. Gibbons’ media consultant Adam Goodman said on the TV program Florida This Week that he “just saw a new poll that show…

Former Largo mayor scratched from ballot over missing signature

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

In a messy turn of events, former Mayor Bob Jackson has been disqualified from the Largo city election because one of his candidate forms, a loyalty oath, was not signed. Friday afternoon, City Clerk Diane Bruner e-mailed a letter to the Supervisor of Elections Office asking the mayor’s race to be pulled from the ballot. Jackson was challenging incumbent Mayor Pat Gerard, who defeated him in the 2006 election. For now, Gerard is automatically re-elected as the only qualified candidate,…
