Deveron Gibbons evokes (or plagiarizes?) Lawton Chiles in direct mail-piece

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

After Election Day, I promise I’m gonna make Deveron Gibbons a T-shirt that says “I spent $200,000 on my campaign to be Mayor and all I got was this T-shirt.” If I had 200K to spend on an election, this is not the mailpiece I would send out, especially after the recent coverage of Gibbons’ work for predatory lenders and the controversy over his checkered driving record. But when your consultant makes his bones on TV production, this is the…

Another day, another story about Scott Wagman violating some campaign rule

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Yesterday, I received a letter from the Florida Elections Commission stating that the FEC believe my complaints against Scott Wagman for putting up these kind of Google ads: are legally sufficient and have offerred Wagman’s campaign the opportunity to agree to a consent order, pay the fine and fix the ads or appeal the decision (FEC 09-160). This is just the latest example of Mr. Houghton-Wagman’s disregard for the norms of electioneering. Just yesterday, Wagman’s campaign was caught placing signs…

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Sorry for the grainy footage, but I am posting on the fly as this story develops. I just so happened to be coming home from a night on the town when I noticed someone putting out yard signs in the right-of-way at the intersection of 4th Street and 83rd Avenue. Upon closer inspection, I noticed the signs were for Scott Wagman. Upon even closer inspection, I noticed that it was Scott Wagman himself illegally placing the yard signs in the…

Food and Wine Wednesday: Steve Westphal last man standing in bid to build restaurant at Albert Whitted Airport

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Albert Whitted Airport may finally get a new restaurant. The city was reviewing proposals from two local restaurateurs to operate in the space on the terminal’s second floor. Now, however, one has said he will withdraw his bid. Both Parkshore Grill owner Steve Westphal and the Undertow Beach Bar owner Paul Nicklaus submitted bids to rent the 5,000-square-foot space, which has sat empty since the terminal opened in 2007. Last week, however, Nicklaus said he had decided to withdraw. Officials…
