Nina Hayden just shot herself in the foot

I guess if she is crazy enough to give up her seat on the Pinellas School Board to run against Jack Latvala, it should come as no surprise then that Nina Hayden is endorsing Steve Kornell for St. Petersburg City Council.

The only problem with this endorsement is that Kornell is running against Angela Rouson, wife of Darryl Rouson, the rockstar of the Pinellas legislative delegation. So basically, Hayden just made an enemy out of one of the guys who can all but shut down her fundraising from Tallahassee.

If you know Darryl Rouson, you know he’ll take this offense in stride, but he won’t forget it. There will be a moment during next year’s legislative session when the Democratic power brokers come to Rouson for his assessment of Hayden’s chances to beat Latvala and whether they should invest the limited resources the state party has into the race. Of course they will still help her, but maybe just not as enthusiastically as she will need.

Ms. Hayden, you need to find some better political counsel. And quick.
