Preview of the new commenting system on the St. Pete Times’ website: Looks like you can’t call someone an asshole anymore

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Since their inception, the St. Petersburg Times‘ Buzz and the Bay Buzz have been the Wild Wild West of Florida’s political media blogs. A post rarely goes by without a barrage of obscene comments from anonymous bloggers. Homophobia, racism, sexism, hell, even nihilism, runs rampant on the two blogs. I, like any other frequent posters, have been called every name in the book by bloggers on the Buzz and Bay Buzz. Occasionally, the comments become so heinous, so libelous, that…

New Majority blog: Charlie Crist the better bet for Republicans

in Statewide by

From Andrew Pavelyev’s New Majority Blog: “Are conservatives nuts? I keep hearing wild enthusiasm about Marco Rubio’s challenge to Charlie Crist. But why make the perfect the enemy of the good? This is not merely about the next election. That seat will be up for reelection in 2016. By that time Fidel will be 90 and almost certainly dead. Raul is just a few years younger, and his chances to make it are not all that great either. In any…

Another national blog: Sen. John Cornyn should be ashamed, NRSC continues to abandon core conservative principles

in Statewide by

Kevin Tracy has one of the best designed blogs around: I’ve been complaining about the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) for a long time, but their early endorsement of Charlie Crist is a new low for this organization that seems to be sending more money to liberal politicians than their Democratic counterparts. New blog — Not One Red Cent — calls for NRSC boycott over Charlie Crist endorsement

in Statewide by

This is a great example of the power of the blogosphere giving an outlet to someone whose voice would have likely gone unheard from. From Not One Red Cent, a new anti-Charlie Crist, anti-NRSC blog: On May 12, 2009, The National Republican Senatorial Committee betrayed its mission, betrayed Republican voters, and betrayed the Reagan legacy. The NRSC sided with an establishment candidate, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, in a Senate primary against young conservative leader, former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio.…

Save BayWalk

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

News is breaking this evening that two days after he took over BayWalk, interim property manager Howard Rosenthal was arrested Thursday by Pinellas Sheriff’s detectives accused of stealing almost $171,000 from his former company, Colliers Arnold of Clearwater. This is yet another black eye on one of the most important parts of downtown St. Pete. I could make the argument that it was the development of Baywalk, more than any other effort, that has led to the revitalization of downtown…
