First movie poster for David Fincher’s ‘The Social Network’

in Apolitical by

Columbia Pictures has released the first movie poster for director David Fincher’s next film The Social Network, which tells the story of Mark Zuckerberg and how in 2004 during his sophomore year at Harvard he created Facebook. The movie stars Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake, Andrew Garfield, Joe Mazzello and Rashida Jones. I love the poster design, it’s different from anything we’ve really seen before in a movie poster. For example the title of the film is placed in the corner of the Facebook style sidebar. It’s the…

Content is no longer King: Curation is King

in Apolitical by

“Content is King” — no longer. Today, the world has changed. “Curation Is King.” Ok, I hear all the content-makers sharpening their knives to take me on. I’m ready. First, why content is dead: Content used to be the high quality media that came out of the very pointed end of the funnel. Articles in The New York Times. Movies from Miramax. Thursday night comedy from NBC. Books published by Simon and Schuster. Creative folks wrote pitches, treatments, sample chapters,…

While most states have yet to craft rules about disclosure of payment for search, display, or social network ads, Florida’s new rules allow political candidates to run all sorts of online ads without including a “paid for by” style disclaimer. “Political advertisers on the state and local level…

Check out Bald Guys for Bill McCollum on Facebook

in Statewide by

Of course it was George Riley who turned me on to a new Facebook page: Bald Guys for Bill McCollum.  From their page: Historically, the bald man has faced near-insurmountable social challenges at every turn. To the common man, whose perception has been bent by unfair stereotypes, we are the evil geniuses, the dangerous onlookers, the clone-like cultists and the blank human tofu template upon which all of the world’s worries and fears have been broadcast. But those days have passed.…

Social media saves Bowled Restaurant

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

On Saturday, I reported the unfortunate news that Bowled Restaurant had closed.  Well, due to an overwhelming response via social media, the owners of Bowled Restaurant decided to stay open, writing on their Facebook page: We are not going down without a fight! Bowled received numerous calls, emails and Facebook posts requesting not to close. It may not be the easiest week ahead, but we’ve decided to try to push through. We are open for lunch and dinner today and…
