Florida adds 18.6K jobs in March, second-highest in nation

Florida added 18,600 jobs last month, more than any state but California, according to data released Wednesday by payroll company ADP. The ADP Regional Employment Report shows 16,000 of the new jobs coming to the service sector and 2,600 heading to goods-producing sectors. The gain is a slight dip from February, when the Sunshine State added 20,200 jobs, and lags behind the state’s 6-month average, but is an improvement of 4,200 jobs year-over-year. Florida leads the nation in job growth according to new federal jobless reports. Florida’s unemployment rate dropped slightly to 5 percent in January according to state officials. That’s higher than the national jobless rate of 4.9 percent. But the state did add 32,200 jobs that month. The total bested all but California in the Regional Employment Report and is an improvement of about 2,300 jobs over January numbers and 5,000 jobs over the February 2015 total. The head of Florida’s economic development agency is warning that the state could lose out on 50,000 jobs due to the Legislature.
