We’re waiting, Mayor Foster…

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

I know, I know, it’s only been two weeks since Bill Foster was inaugurated as only the third strong Mayor in St. Petersburg’s history, but isn’t it time for him to announce some sort of bold staffing decision or policy initiative? Foster has actually been the defacto leader of St. Petersburg since he won the Mayoral election in November. Since that time, Foster has done little to establish a tone for his administration. His inaugural speech, for those few outside…

Oldsmar: Slate of candidates set

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

The slate of candidates for the 2010 municipal election is set. Three offices are up for election March 9: mayor and council seats 2 and 4. Seat 2 council member Suzanne Vale will try to unseat Mayor Jim Ronecker, who’s seeking re-election. Former council member Janice Miller and Oldsmar Christian School history teacher Tom Eckert will vie for Vale’s current job. And Seat 4 will be a three-way contest between former council member Loretta Wyandt, former Tampa Tribune sales and…

St. Petersburg mayor Rick Baker endorses Jack Latvala for Senate District 16

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker today announced his endorsement of Jack Latvala for the Florida Senate, District 16 in the 2010 election. “Jack Latvala has valuable experience that will benefit our region in Tallahassee. He accomplished many things for the Tampa Bay area and the state as a whole when he served in the Senate from 1994-2002. He was the driving force to end the water wars in the Tampa Bay area, he was a champion for the environment, and…

Pic: I cast my (early) vote for Bill Foster for Mayor

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Trust me, it brings me no pleasure to vote for Bill Foster. I was critical of Foster when I was working for Jamie Bennett and most of the criticisms have held true. Foster has run a less-than-average campaign, allowing what appears to be a streak of disengagement to permeate throughout his bid for Mayor. For example, he announced he was running for Mayor in February, as if he hadn’t known for months, if not years, that he was going to…

Maybe if Jamie Bennett made sure the park near his home was better taken care of, he would’ve done better than 6th place!

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Sure, Jamie Bennett had his problems running while running for Mayor of St. Petersburg, but maybe, just maybe, his problems began long before he became a a candidate. One of his constituents sent me these pictures, just more evidence that Bennett could barely handle serving on the City Council. It reminds me of a story I heard about Howard Troxler. A while back, ol’ Trox calls Bennett after spotting a coyote in the neighborhood. About a week passes before Bennett…

Scott Wagman, the Half-Million Dollar Man loaned, err, raised $271K for the primary

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Final fundraising numbers for the primary in the St. Petersburg Mayoral Race: Jamie Bennett reported $1,000 in contributions. For the primary he raised $47,683. About $5OK less than what he would have raised had he still had me around. Scott Wagman raises $3,735.01 and loans his campaign $30,000 (now $170,000 all together). For the primary he raised a total of $271,635. You may remember Larry and Mitch bragging about their guy raisin’ $500K for this race. Fellas, hate to tell…
