A few tidbits from the Deveron Gibbons’ campaign: Word is that former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young will be rallying black voters for Gibbons during several GOTV stops at African American churches next Sunday. Gibbons’ media consultant Adam Goodman said on the TV program Florida This Week that he “just saw a new poll that show…

In a messy turn of events, former Mayor Bob Jackson has been disqualified from the Largo city election because one of his candidate forms, a loyalty oath, was not signed. Friday afternoon, City Clerk Diane Bruner e-mailed a letter to the Supervisor of Elections Office asking the mayor’s race to be pulled from the ballot. Jackson was challenging incumbent Mayor Pat Gerard, who defeated him in the 2006 election. For now, Gerard is automatically re-elected as the only qualified candidate,…

Lessons from a successful Florida mayor

in Statewide/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Jeb Bush is mad at Rick Baker. Well, not really. But the former Florida governor wanted to see the mayor of St. Petersburg aim for statewide office – say, governor – but Mayor Baker has declined. His children are in middle school, and he didn’t want to be away from home doing so much campaigning. At age 52, Baker doesn’t exactly qualify as one of the “green shoots” of a Republican Party that is trying to reinvent itself nationally. But…

John Warren’s direct mail-piece

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

There are other candidates running for Mayor of St. Petersburg beside Deveron Gibbons and Scott Wagman. Unfotunately, their campaign budgets allow them to block out the light from other campaigns.
