Hillsborough GOP treasurer resigns, Pinellas Republicans cut off Jim Dobyns

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Paul Phillips, the treasurer of the Hillsborough Republican Party, resigned last week. According to Deborah Cox-Roush: “Paul was not asked to resign but did so due to the fact that he is a banking attorney and very busy with his job. Paul was a great asset to our board and is a great asset to the HCRP. I am saddened that he resigned because he was a good member of our board, however, he is the type of person that…

Continuing coverage of doctor’s racist email depicting Barack Obama as a witch doctor

7:20 p.m. – Tomorrow’s St. Petersburg Times story on McKalip. 7:18 p.m. – McKalip says he is taking a leave of absence from a leadership role with the American Medical Association. “That e-mail depicted such an offense image, and it was completely inappropriate for me to thoughtlessly forward it out,” McKalip said. “A person in my position, who’s trying to help patients and trying to do it in organized medicine, needs to think hard about the people he’s going to…

Video: Creative Loafing hangs out a shingle on Craig’s List but now the ad is missing

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

With the threat of imminent death that haunts all print media these days, it should not come as surprise that Creative Loafing is using a free service to advertise for writing positions that offer little or no pay. in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Don’t know where they were, why they left or why they’re back, but the snarkies at St. Petersblog, known around these parts as “that other St. Petersblog,” woke up from three or four months of inactivity to blast Scott Wagman: “This dude is going to be seriously pissed when he wakes up on November 4 and realizes he has spent a small fortune on yard signs, Google ads and a team of people annoying me with shitty e-mails. Hell, he…

10 things I think I think about yesterday’s candidate forum at Tiger Bay

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Honestly, I am often apprehensive about going to Tiger Bay. I know I make a lot of people (that means you, Leslie Curran) uncomfortable by just being in the room. But my apprehension subsides quickly once I see all the familiar faces. Plus, I’ve won a couple of fang-and-claw awards, I try to ask good, tough questions (I’d have won a few more fang-and-claw awards by now if some of the judges weren’t those same people I make uncomfortable) and,…

Karl Nurse drops a niiiicccceeee mailpiece

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

My dear friend Karl Nurse dropped a niiiicccceeee mail-piece. Nice head shot, nice soft colors, nice quote from the Times. The reverse has a couple of niiiicccceeee pictures of Obama and Morpheus. Karl basically is pulling a reverse Deveron, who sent out a mail-piece chock full of pictures of Deveron and Wonder Bread. I guess I have to give this piece a “B” because it’s so damn nice. The front is about as good as you can get without trying…
