Maybe, just maybe, the Times is partially responsible for St. Pete voters’ apathy

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Not to stir up any more trouble for myself than I usually do, but maybe, just maybe voters are undecided about whom to vote for St. Petersburg Mayor because the Times coverage is so lackluster. Not for lack of trying. The Times has bombarded the voters with coverage of the trivial and trivial candidates. Whether it be stories about Rays’ tickets, “sign monsters” or Kentucky Fried Chicken, the focus has been on what is Buzz worthy, rather than what is…

Kentucky Fried Congemi missing from Buzz

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

It is the kind of surreal story that makes Twitter accounts, well um, twitter: Mayoral hopeful cited for trespassing at a Kentucky Fried Chicken. That was the breaking news on the Bay Buzz this afternoon. And, honestly, it was nice for them to have a story that included the word “police” that did not involve me. Evidently, longshot candidate Paul Congemi was charged with trespassing after getting into a (possibly racist) shouting match with employees of the Colonel. St. Pete…

Jamie Bennett supporter Will Michaels on Bennett: ‘I don’t think he has a chance’

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Neighborhood leader and St. Petersburg Preservation president Will Michaels sounds like he’s getting off the Jamie Bennett for mayor bandwagon. He returned a message from Bay Buzz today to talk about the allegations surrounding the Bennett campaign. He didn’t officially pull his endorsement, but he was hardly a cheerleader of Bennett’s prospects. “I think he’s a good man,” Michaels said of Bennett. “Obviously, he made a serious error in judgment by hiring Peter Schorsch. No doubt about it. It’s hurt…

Jamie Bennett’s policy ideas were Peter Schorsch’s

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

But as a mayoral candidate, he seemed to have fresh ideas about what to do with the downtown waterfront, Pier and Tropicana Field. Turns out, those weren’t his ideas. Former campaign manager Peter Schorsch said he suggested that Bennett add a splash pad and conference center at the Pier, embrace a referendum to protect the downtown waterfront and keep the Tampa Bay Rays’ stadium in St. Petersburg.…

What I mean to the Bay Buzz blog

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

When I wasn’t busy brokering tickets, I worked up an unofficial analysis of my impact — good and bad — on the Bay Buzz blog, which, as you all know, I no longer deign to read. Again, this is all unofficial and since I went to FSU I am not that great at math, but during the month of April, there were: 91 posts on the Bay Buzz blog with 1220 total comments, which works out to an average of…

Schorsched earth

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

From Wayne Garcia: Maybe it is a sign of the tolerant times that a high-profile campaign volunteer for a St. Petersburg mayoral candidate can get away with calling the hometown daily “a cunt of a newspaper,” or maybe it is a comment on the state of the news media. Either way, consultant Peter Schorsch appears to have gotten away with it, while at the same time declaring that he will no longer post comments on the St. Petersburg Times Bay…
